Generosity Abounds at PASD
The Phoenixville Area School District continuously works within our community to ensure that all members feel loved and supported. The district has forged strong partnerships with many community organizations dedicated to helping people in need. During this holiday season, the district places a high priority on helping all people enjoy the special season. The generosity of the district families, students and staff is overwhelming. The High School’s youth and philanthropy club organizes a holiday stocking drive. During the month of December Mr. Smiley’s room is filled with stockings that will be delivered and distributed to local organizations. Each stocking contains gifts for small children. Mrs. Kornaga and the student government from Schuylkill Elementary teams up with the HS and will donate over 225 additional stockings this year. The Middle School prides itself on their annual food drive coordinated by Mr. Short. Each classroom is filled with boxes waiting to be delivered. The students realize the impact they have when all the boxes are put together and organized in the cafeteria. It is amazing to see the amount of food collected. Additionally, members of the MS community donate gift cards to various stores for families to purchase special gifts. At the elementary level, the staff organizes gift giving efforts. Donna Elicker from East Pikeland and Stephanie McErlean from Schuylkill focus on specific gift requests from children. They ask parents and staff to purchase the items to be delivered to families before the holidays. The Barkley K-Kids led by Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Haines ensure that everyone is warm by providing hats, mittens and scarves to the community. It is at this time of year that the kind hearts of PASD truly shine. The generosity and thoughtfulness of the entire district strengthens bonds that make our Phoenixville community great.
