District Wide ESL Night

ESL NightThe district held its 4th Annual ESL Family Night at Barkley Elementary on November 5th.  The event was held to inform the ESL (English as a Second Language) families about all the school and community resources that are available to them. Our hope is to promote an open and welcoming climate in our schools to foster a positive working relationship with the families. To start the evening off families gathered together for pizza and cookies prior to the informational program. There were many interpreters available to assist the families with communication. We do not want communication to be an obstacle when interacting in the schools or the community.  Some of the highlights of the evening were all the wonderful resources that the Phoenixville Area Community Organizations and PASD shared with us.   There were sessions for the parents on how to navigate the PASD website and Skyward.  Every student and their siblings that came received a free book to take home with them for their reading pleasure. All the families, staff and volunteers seemed to enjoy themselves and we look forward to doing it again.  To see photos of the evening please click http://www.pasd.com/cms/One.aspx?portalId=435258&pageId=1396515&objectId.145702=5208629&contextId.145702=1396516&action.145702=viewAlbum
